I had just discovered Monocle’s internet radio station, Monocle 24, when I heard Yuna for the first time. It was not this specific song, but she caught my attention and I quickly added it to my Spotify playlist.
Given monocle’s international flavor, I was expecting songs in foreign languages, or at least in non-native english accents. Yuna’s accent, however, was very western. Intrigued by the name I started digging.
I discovered that she was actually Malaysian. I listened to her most popular songs, and Rescue is the one I fell in love with – it’s one of those songs that just sticks in your head and you can’t help but play them in repeat.
I love the musicality but also the lyrics. The story of finding your strength after a difficult time in your life is very inspiring. Like a volcano, this positive energy and strength erupt to the surface, unstoppable.
Now, let the seat dancing begin.
