It was 2010 and the South African world cup fever was on the rise, Shakira’s official song, Waka Waka, was often playing. One day I noticed an unfamiliar name next to Shakira’s; it was Freshlyground. As this piqued my curiosity, I went to my trusty friend, Google, and I found a treasure.
Freshlyground is a South African Afro-Fusion band that embodies perfectly what Accents are Sexy is about. Their members hail from several countries – South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe – and they bring together their diverse cultural background and talents to create a wonderful blend of musique that has elements of traditional South African music, blues, jazz and indie rock.
This song was the first one I found and love, but not the only one. I’ve added a few others of my favorites below.
